Mom and Dad left Friday morning for a trip to Cape Cod which means the kids and I along with Tony will need to keep an eye on a few extra things til they return. We have to feed and water the chickens and turkeys and gather eggs from the hen house. Sophia LOVES to go and gather the eggs the chickens sitting in the box don't scare her in the least, she sticks her hand right under the chickens to get the eggs out!
In the evenings we all get on the gator and drive up into the far pasture to check on the yearling heifers and make sure the artisan well is still flowing so that they have enough to drink...actually Saturday night Tony had to run a new water line because the cows kept knocking it off when they would come to drink and then what little bit of water was flowing from the well was ending up all over the ground instead of inside the basin. Reggie the bull is in this field so we always have to be watching him to make sure we know where he is at all times!
After the store closes each evening, I make the rounds down to check on the temperatures of all the freezers and coolers and tally the receipts for the day, it is pretty relaxing because the farm is nice and quiet in the evenings and you can reflect on the surroundings and on how very lucky we are to be living in such a beautiful place!
