Temper Tantrums and other news

I am thinking I may need to call Nanny 911 if Sophia's terrible tantrums don't get under control soon! You never know when they are going to strike and how long they are going to last. Today one started at my mother's house while we were all having lunch, she got mad because Tony ate the last of the salad they were sharing and then she wanted ice tea and her Nana had already told her she had to finish her chocolate milk first, and THAT just wasn't what Sophia wanted to hear! She laid down on the floor, stretched out her legs and was kicking me while I was trying to eat, screaming the whole time, and then when that didn't seem to be working in her favor she got up and started trying to grab my drink, my plate, anything she could get her hands on to throw onto the floor! Once I finished I grabbed up all her stuff and carried her kicking and screaming out of the house and brought her home...Gabe asked if he could stay at Nana's as he was tired of hearing all the whining!!

Once we got home, she did not want to get out of the van, so I had to drag her into the house kicking and screaming again, I turned my back to do some house chores and she had "escaped" out the back door and was heading back to the van...I brought her back in and again she tried to leave, so now she is in her bedroom (still screaming) but not able to escape.

About 20 minutes ago I tried to go into her room and talk to her about why she was so angry, and told her if she stopped all the fussing that she could come out and play with me, to no avail I ended up closing the door behind me again and the screaming got louder and she bangs on the door. It has been about an hour now since the whole tantrum began and her room is FINALLY quiet, I am hoping she may have fallen asleep. The tantrums could start over any number of things from not getting to pick out her socks, to putting the wrong toothpaste on her toothbrush, I try very hard to "pick my fights" as they say to do, but I refuse to have her calling all the shots!

In other news, we are still looking for a billing clerk in the office, Karen is still helping us out but she will be moving to southern Virginia at the end of next week. We are gearing up for our Fall Open house on October 21 and 22nd. We are busy bottling fresh apple cider now for the routes and in a few more weeks we will have EGG NOG, and then before we know it the holidays will be upon us again! We will also be starting new delivery routes in Vienna, Virginia in a few more weeks!

At home, we finally broke down and bought a new mattress set, we went way over budget, but the last one we had has lasted for 9 years and was very cheap, so hopefully we can get at least that many years out of this new one...however I just made the bed and realized we might need to get step stools to get in and out of the bed!!

I started volunteering in Gabe's classroom this past Wednesday, and I am on the schedule for every Wednesday for the rest of the school year. Things went pretty smooth for my first day, did some group teaching and some paperwork for Mrs. Bates, and ran into some of my old teachers.

Ms. Becky took Gabe out to the Frederick Fair last night, he had a really good time and he even brought back a toy to share with Sophia...such a sweet kid! Jim and I traveled to Vienna, VA to attend a memorial service for one of the market masters at the Vienna Farmers Market that we attend every Saturday. She dies suddenly after market last saturday evening from a heart attack and left behind her husband of only 3 years and baby daughter Charlotte who is almost 2. The service was very nice, but what truely tore at my heart was hearing Charlotte cry for her mommy during the service, so, so sad!! We ended up staying in Vienna after the service because we knew trying to get home at 5:30 would be impossible, so we joined up with some friends and ate at one of Karen's favorite places..."The Vienna Inn" and toasted in her honor. Her smile and bubbly personality will certainly be missed!

Just found out that my grandmother Sowers will be having outpatient Gall Bladder surgery next Tuesday, and my mother-in-law recently had this very same surgery. Grandma has been feeling very nauseous and they can't find anything wrong, so hopefully this will help her.

Until next time...
