Harvest Time...

If anyone ever asked me what my favorite time of year would be, it would be a hard choice between the spring and the fall. I really enjoy the mild temperatures of these times of year but they also say alot to those of us who have choosen to be "stewards of the land" or farmers. In the spring it is a time of rebirth, we plant our crop for the year and hope for rain that will yield a bountiful harvest to feed our cattle thru what could be a long winter. The grass is fresh and green and the smell of sweet hay blows in the breeze.

The fall brings with it the sights of dried corn standing in the field and business that harvest brings with it. Lots of work to be done out in the fields. It would be nice to get thru a chopping season with no break-downs but unfortunately this season has just begun and we have broken down almost 16 times!! Today the machines seemed to be working OK and Sophia likes to spend time with her "Poppy" so I took her in the field to join him aboard the chopper. ..
I love the view I can get from Grandma's stone fence, you can see all of Middletown Valley from here...she certainly has the "million dollar view" from her front porch!
Because of all the urban sprawl around here, we farm small plots of land in all directions of the main farm, causing us to haul the silage miles and miles from the field to the silos to store it for winter. Today, the guys are hauling 3 miles one way, which is hard on tires, fuel and the machinery.

Thank you Lord for our Bountiful Harvest, we are forever grateful to you for what we have and who we have become...
