Our Poor, Pathetic, Vinnie!

Well, so much for the expensive "Invisible Fence" we purchased a year ago to help keep our dog safe. It no longer serves the function of keeping Vincent from following Tony and I to the farm or where ever else we need to go. The fence is on and it does work, Vincent has just learned that he can sprint thru it, and only hurts for a second and then he is FREE!!!

On Sunday when we went to Sam's birthday party he followed us from our house, up Reno Monument Rd almost to Fox Gap, we did not want him wandering around getting lost so we put him in the back of the truck and took him with us, he did great, stayed in the truck for the 2 hours we were at the party and rode home. Another day this week I was heading to Grandma's to get the kids when he took off after me in the truck up Bolivar Rd and he was keeping up with me rather well (he is a FAST dog), so needless to say I stopped and picked him up and took him along...as long as you leave the bed gate closed he stays in. So we were starting to feel OK with the idea that he was no longer going to be staying around the house with us, in fact he doesn't even eat here anymore...he get so much attention at the creamery that besides coming home with Tony at night he stays over around the buildings or Tony's truck until he sees one of us.

Ben was even commenting to Tony this morning that every day, Vinnie reminds him more and more of our beloved Whisker Doodles that we lost a few years ago.

Ok, so now to the story, this morning Tony needed to run to Middletown to Ingall's to get some parts and took the dog with him in the truck...now mind you this would be his first trip in the back of the truck going to town, all the other trips have been on back roads to open locations in the country, so Tony was a bit concerned if he would REALLY stay in the back of his truck when he got out to go inside...well he did not get to find out because on his way into Middletown (a whole 4 mile trip from the farm) Vinnie was barking at every vehicle that past them going the other direction and was so excited he fell right out of the truck and was run over by a car! The car of course didn't stop, the vehicles behind Tony stopped and offered to help but Tony was afraid that Vinnie may bite and told them not to get too close and he immediately ran him to our vet in Boonsboro!

The vet told him that nothing looked life-threatening and said they would call in a few hours if they found anything wrong. Besides needing stitches in his front and back leg and being a bit scratched and scraped on his face he is fine, THANK GOODNESS!

The girls at the vet office said we have a "real character" with Vinnie they said you would think he was dead, he just acts SO PATHETIC! I think he can stay in the mudroom for a few days, until things start healing!
