During the summer months we get really bad thunder and lightening storms around us, and last night deemed to be a DOOZIE! Around 7:00 or so the lights went out and stayed out...at first Sophia and Gabe were scared and then I showed them how much fun it could be to play games in the dark. We lit a bunch of yankee candles (YUMMY) and told stories and played bored games and kept waiting for the lights to come back on.
Finally, it was time to put the kids to bed and the lights still hadn't come back on yet so I told Tony I was going to bed...there was nothing else I could do, I had no water to wash dishes, no light to read and no TV to watch or internet to surf...Tony was a bit GRUMPY because the house was getting warm (lack of A/C) and he couldn't watch TV and he WASN"T tired. So laying there in bed we started talking about camp and campfires and I told him I never liked camp and he said he loved camp especially the storytelling around the campfire, and so he started playing this game with me where he starts a story and then abruptly stops and I am supposed to keep the story going...apparently I am not very good at this game because every attempt I made at telling the story he fixed with his own addition and before long we were both laughing so hard we were crying, and then SUDDENLY all the lights in the house came back on and he jumped out of bed to check on the kids (who were sound asleep and could have cared less about the lights being on) and when he came back to bed he quickly found the remote and settled in for the night...
Even though it seemed a bit inconvenient at the time, it was kindof neat to make our own fun for once instead of relying on TV, and other electronic means.
