Today I spent the afternoon helping my mom pick up countless buckets of black walnuts for my Granddaddy to crack this winter.
This morning when I dropped the kids off, he was complaining to Grandma about how he would have nothing to do this winter cause he couldn't bend over like he used to, so he would not be able to pick up walnuts, so I called my mom and told her that I wanted to pick them up for him and she wanted to help too. So we started in the backyard of her house and then went to like 3 tress up the woods behind Grandma and Granddaddy's house. It was slightly misting rain and the 40 heifers that live in that field decided what we were doing was much more interesting than eatting hay, so they all followed us around the field...stealing the walnuts out of our buckets, slobbering all over the gator we were driving and fighting for attention...it was cute and annoying all at the same time! Grandma called us to check in when we were almost finished and told us whatever we had was enough but we didn't listen and kept at it until we filled the last bucket full!
As we were driving out of the field we passed by a pear tree, and mom wanted to pick some to eat but the branches were too high and we could quite reach them so I grabbed the only limb I could and shook it back and forth until pears were raining down all around me, we got what we wanted and the cows came immediately and ate the rest.
So for my Granddaddy I think we picked him enough to get thru the winter, so that he won't get too bored!
