It was such a perfect night for an evening walk, and the kids needed to get out of the house, so we headed out to the farm and to my parents house to see if they would want to join us. No one was home or around so we talked about what we were going to do next, and decided to take the kids and dog up the road to the nearby cul-de-sac. Tony and I were talking about how different it is now to take an evening walk (something we almost always did when we lived at the old neighborhood), however back then it was more of a social stroll, stopping every so often to chat with the neighbors and find out what everyone was doing. It is different now, because we really don't have that luxury, the neighbors around here might lift a hand to waive but aren't really interested in chatting. This evening walk was more about taking in the views of the bountiful crop we have planted this year...the corn and the beans waving gently with the breeze, and taking in the other scenery of the farm, like the field of dotted cattle we could see in the distance. All of this is what we have to look forward to, not like before we we owed a small space in a large neighborhood where each person builds a fence around their property to almost say "this is mine"...we have soo much more than that now, our kids (although Gabe might disagree that he doesn't have any friends) have a safe place to grow-up, play, and learn here, surrounded by many, many people that love them. The walk ended back at mom and dad's (they were home now) the kids wanted treats and drinks, and Tony and I just chatted with them before heading back home...a nice relaxing ending to a day!
